If you are thinking of selling your home in the spring time, now is the best time to start preparing! If you start early it will less stressful and may have more resources at your disposal before everyone else has the same idea. Also, the sooner you get started on the “to-dos”, the sooner they will be complete which means you could be on market in early spring when there might be less competition. Here is our go-to list for getting a home to be it’s best before going on market:
Evaluation your home’s condition
It always good to start with a general walk-through & evaluation of the current state of your home. Is there obvious repairs that might scare away potential buyers? Is there something unappealing that could easily be improved? Is there flaked or chipped paint on doorways or trim work? Could your carpet do with a deep cleaning or maybe replacement? If you give your home a once over and view it as if you were a savvy buyer, it can be helpful to understand what needs to be worked on before going on market.
Help your home have a great first impression
Make sure the front of your home or entrance area does not immediately make buyers want to head to the next home on their list. Keep the exterior of your home clean, trimmed, and well groomed. A little goes a long way when it comes to curb appeal, so consider some plants or shrubbery that complement the front of the home. Its always a great idea to have a door mat & potted plants by the front door to give a clean and cozy feeling as people enter your home.
Declutter & simplify
Start with one room at a time & cut back on what is immediately visible to anyone entering your home. If things are cluttered or crammed looking, it gives the impression that there is not enough room in the house for our every day items. You also want visitors to feel comfortable & able to see & understand the entire space of the room. Its also extremely beneficial to get organized before going on market because it makes packing to move so easy!
