Monday, sweet Monday, is our vegetable pickup day at Riverhill Farm. Monday evening we prepare a feast from all the fresh local produce and invite some lucky guests to join us for supper.
Tonight the Locavore Lottery winners are newlyweds Bill and Kathy Belding who live two doors down the street!
And Mom. She gets lucky a lot. Five of us.
What’s on the menu?
Appetizers
Bella Capra Smoked Goat Cheese (from a small creamery here in the Sierra Nevada Foothills)
Salad
Four Lettuce Salad (made from baby heads of oak, freckle, and two other kinds of baby heads I can’t remember)
Bread
Truckee Ciabatta with local Olive Oil and local Balsamic Vinegar (We pass the bread and break it. Is there another way?)
Main Dishes
Fresh Kale Sauteed in Garlic and Ginger (Ike’s recipe)
Fresh Carrots Stir-Fried and Caramelized (Makes your eyes roll back up in your head)
Fresh Italian Zuchinni Grilled on the Barbie (Did I mention it was fresh?)
Pineapple Skewed on Sticks and Grilled on the Barbie (OK, the pineapple is NOT local. I let you down. I’m SORRY)
Chicken Skewers Marinaded in Jamaican Jerk and (you guessed it) Grilled on the Barbie.
Wine
Sonata (a sauvignon blanc and chardonnay blend bottled up the road at the Nevada City Winery)
Dessert
Sliced Fresh Strawberries in Cream (I picked them myself about 2:00 this afternoon at Riverhill. Pick one. Eat one. Pick one. Eat one. <sigh> It’s a tough job.
Next time you’re in the neighborhood of Lake of the Pines on a Monday, give us a call. You might get lucky, too!
